Yet during those quiet hours when our mind is on hold, our brain does the essential labor at the heart of all creative acts. It edits itself. And it may throw out a lot.

In a provocative new theory about the purpose of sleep, neuroscientist Giulio Tononi of the University of Wisconsin?Madison has proposed that slumber, to cement what we have learned, must also spur the brain?s undoing. As the conscious mind settles into sleep, the neural connections that create a scaffold for our knowledge must partially unravel, his theory suggests. Although this nightly dismantling might seem like a curious act of cerebral self-sabotage, it may in fact be a mechanism for enhancing the brain?s capacity to encode and store new information.

The Goodguys 15^th Colorado Nationals Car Show is a giant outdoor automotive festival featuring over 1,500 hot rods, custom cars, classics, muscle cars and trucks through 1972 vintage. The show fills the entire grounds of The Ranch Events Complex with colorful custom and classic cars, vendor exhibits, Goodguys AutoCross (electronically timed road course to test vehicle performance), an automotive swap meet, cars for sale corral, live music by The Backline on Saturday and Sunday, kid?s activities and other family oriented entertainment.

The Colorado Nationals is the 6^th of 20 national events produced by the California based Goodguys Rod & Custom Association. The Ranch is the perfect setting to feature some of the finest classic cars and hot rods, classics and customs from the Midwest and all parts of the US. Local talent and hot rod builder Eric Peratt of Pinkee?s Rod Shop will be on hand to personally select the ?Builder?s Choice? awards. A Builder?s Choice award is the highest honor a customized car can receive at a Goodguys event. Only ten Builder?s Choice awards are given out.

CAR SHOW:

Over 1,500 Hot Rods, Customs, Classic Cars, Street Machines, Muscle Cars and Trucks through 1972 vintage will fill the scenic grounds of The Ranch. Flamin? hot Street Rods, tail draggin? 50s Customs, Tri-Five Chevy?s, mega horsepower Street Machines and Muscle Cars and hundreds of other specialty vehicles will be on display. Fans can get up close and see the hottest machines in the Mile High State.

MANUFACTURER?S EXHIBITS:

Performance automotive companies will exhibit products and hold demonstrations throughout the show. Enthusiasts will get the chance to talk directly with manufacturer representatives, buy automotive related products at special prices and ask consumer related questions.

GOODGUYS AUTOCROSS:

Hot rods and muscle cars will be in action all three days making runs through the electronically timed Goodguys AutoCross course. The course is approx. 1000 ft in length and features tight turns with rapid acceleration and deceleration. Speeds average 20-30mph while testing to extreme limits the vehicle?s performance capabilities. Winners receive gift certificates from sponsors including tires and suspension equipment and other performance goodies.

SUPER SUNDAY GET-TOGETHER:

Held on Sunday, June 10th only, the Goodguys Super Sunday Get-Together is a special event inside the event which welcomes all years, makes and models of American powered cars and trucks. Late model American muscle like the new generation Camaro, Mustang, GTO, Challenger, Charger and more are welcome to show alongside the vintage cars.

SWAP MEET & CAR CORRAL:

The automotive swap meet will offer rare and hard to find automotive parts and equipment. The swap meet is a great place to get used automotive stuff at rock bottom prices! The car corral is the place to find great deals on all kinds of automobiles. Great buys will be featured in this high performance used car lot! Hundreds cars for sale are expected.

BUILDER?S CHOICE AWARDS:

Awards play a big role in any automotive event, and the Nashville Nationals will offer plenty. Hot rod builder ?Eric Peratt of Pinkee?s Rod Shop in Windsor will be on hand throughout the weekend to hand-pick the ?Builder?s Choice? awards. The Builder?s Choice awards are hand crafted by their namesake to honor the top ten cars at the event. Other-special awards like the ?Low Lid? will go to the hot rod or custom car with the lowest roof. The ?Homebuilt Heaven? pick goes to a rod or custom that was completely built and fabricated by the owner in his or her own garage.

Life, Love, Lust: The only post I will have about Fifty Shades of Grey

I fell for it. Yes, I did. Everyone was saying how amazing this Fifty Shades of Grey book is and how much it is like Twilight. I was like, really? As a reader, you can't not check it out. So I did. And here it is:

I am so glad I did not waste one cent on that book. That book is not only disturbing but disgusting and just plain wrong and I am not talking about the sex. Although that is a topic. How can a book like this be compared to Twilight? Does anybody see what comparing it to that does? It makes teenagers want to read it. It makes them believe that it's OK to read something like that.

The reason I think all that is a bad idea is because Christian is not the dream male specimen. He is an abusive person. Go read up on abuse and what does that say? This guys name is listed under abuse in the dictionary! He controls this girl and tells her what to do. Who she can and cannot talk to, who she can be friends with. This is not something teenagers should be reading. This is not something anyone should support.

The thing I hate the most about this book being compared to Twilight is that this is an abusive relationship and they are pretty much selling that to teenagers. Teenagers! The last thing we need is teenagers looking for abusive boyfriends because they might be good in bed. This book sets a bad example on the kind of person they want to grow old with. Sex isn't important in a relationship. Trust and devotion is. I wouldn't have any of my future children within a 10 mile radius of a grade A jerk like that.

I have lived in a world with abusive people and this book has truly disgusted me. They make this controlling guy into someone people dream of being with. This monster. I honestly couldn't finish the book and honestly don't care if Ana can change him. Because that's not real life. Not all abusive boyfriends or husbands can change.

Maintenance work shuts Starbucks across country

Thousands of tweets flooded Twitter lamenting a Starbucks-less Wednesday.

Bleary-eyed customers who stumble into their local Starbucks every morning did so literally Wednesday. That's because hundreds of the coffee chain's stores nationwide were closed.

The forced decaffeination of America's morning commuters was due to overnight maintenance work at stores across the country that wasn't finished on time for the morning rush, Maggie Jantzen, a spokeswoman for Starbucks, told NBC station WCMH of Columbus, Ohio.?

Jantzen said she didn't know how many stores were affected, but she said about 10 percent to 20 percent of the stores that were due for the work were unable to open on time.?

The company said the work was routine maintenance on a standardized water filtration system and that no safety issues were involved.

But because of it, stores were closed across the country ? as many as 1,500, mainly in the eastern half of the U.S., a quick tabulation of local news reports and hundreds of tweets by msnbc.com indicated. Coffee drinkers were left dripless from South Dakota to Florida, New York to Texas.

"I like to start my day with Starbucks, so I don't really know what to do," Kelly Furnet told NBC station WJXT as she stood outside a shuttered shop in Jacksonville, Fla.

"It's a huge problem because, in my office, people go there multiple times in a day for their coffee fix," Rebecca Stockdale, who works near one of the closed Starbucks in Columbus, told WCMH. "You can't have them coming to work without their caffeine!"
